Tailplane Notes

Tailplane Fixtures...

Hello,

Hope this finds you all well and getting a bit more sleep than I am!!! In the middle of nappy changes and baths I was contemplating the problem of fixing the tailplane. I was planning on using the bolt from the forward fin attachment bracket to go all the way through the longerons, thus negating the need for the one 'screw...but replacing the forward screw with a bolt is a touch more difficult because it coincides with the vertical and diagonal fuz side members meeting the longerons... How have you guys gone about this? Stuck with the attachments screws? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Regards Paul

. I used long bolts at the forward fin attatchment that go thru the longerons - works ok. I also used bolts just behind the leading edge of the tailplane that also go thru but it misses the upright. Alan

Dear Paul,

My general inability to "do the right thing" caused me to apply the same solution as you now propose. Providing there is an adequate plate, or washer, on the underside of each longeron to spread the load of the nut I think it all makes sense.
